PraxisLIVE overview

PraxisLIVE - a hybrid visual live programming environment for creatives, programmers, students and tinkerers.

PraxisLIVE mixes intuitive real-time visual node editing, with a range of built-in components for audio, visual & data processing, together with an embedded compiler and editor for live-coding Java, Processing and GLSL.

PraxisLIVE is built around PraxisCORE, a modular JVM runtime for cyberphysical programming, supporting real-time coding of real-time systems. With a distributed forest-of-actors architecture, runtime code changes and comprehensive introspection, PraxisCORE brings aspects of Erlang, Smalltalk and Extempore into the Java world ... a powerful platform for media processing, data visualisation, sensors, robotics, IoT, and lots more!

What's new in version 6.6

PraxisCORE Runtime
  • Added ValueMapper support for record types. Records composed of mappable types can now be used as property values and function arguments, with mapping to PMap and limited schema support in argument info.
  • Added validating mappers and enhanced function support for @Type.* parameter annotations.
  • Improved threading control for custom roots using @Driver, including support for disabling background polling, custom receipt handling, and graceful shutdown with markForStop.
  • Added Async.MapQueue for handling Async completion when references to other objects or Async instances are required.
  • Fixed an issue where Data.Sink packets were not disposed correctly, and added manual cache flush controls.
  • The default task service now uses virtual threads.
  • Allowed the @ command to continue when a component already exists while running under --trap-errors, provided the component type matches.
  • Added support for libraries.map files to embed libraries within projects while tracking dependencies.
  • Added Hub::eval for executing scripts in a hub from external code.
  • Added --version output support and brandable launcher messages.
  • Updated LWJGL, JLine, Netty, MIMA, Picocli, and various build plugins.
PraxisLIVE IDE
  • Updated to the Apache NetBeans 29 platform and refreshed various dependencies.
